Okanagan summer, cherries and wild fires

This cherry is sitting pretty on the front lot of a Summerland fruit stand. Her partner is missing.  He appears to be hiding behind the building, sadly in dire need of Mr. Fix-It attention. The cherries are in full, sweet and sour growth. The red cherries are sweet while the pink and white ones are sour. I prefer red. Yum. We have a favorite roadside vendor. It is an Indian family orchard half way between Oliver and Osoyoos. Their fruit is the best we’ve ever bought and is worth the drive, half hour or so from Penticton.
But oh, my goodness: the hills are alive………..with the smell and sight of smoke. The wild fires have exploded with evacuations everywhere. A grandson was happy to be at a summer camp near Princeton for 3 weeks. But a mere week into his trip, he and the rest of the children had to be evacuated because there are wild fires maybe only 4 kms away from the camp.
We drove to Kelowna on Saturday to watch another grandson win 2 baseball games and the smoke was so thick, it was impossible to see the tops of the mountains across the lake. On Friday (July 7), 142 new fires broke out across B.C., bringing the total number of blazes to more than 180.

And then, here’s my beloved, achieving a dream.  He’s always wanted a Cadillac.  Two days ago we went for a walk to Gilligan’s ice cream stand and there is was: For Sale.  A few hours later, away we went in our new/old Boat.  Already we’ve had people oohing and aaahing along the street.  Al is a happy man.  Anyone have a purple sports jacket, size extra large?

Al’s QOTD: We’re too busy watering our own grass to check if yours is greener.

I had to laugh about the purple jacket inquiry–it would have to be complete with the bellbottom pants with matching cuffs on the bottom! That’s quite a ride. When I was growing up, my dad used to get cars on the cheap and fix them up. One was an Eldorado (in the 1970s). I was a teenager having to borrow the car to go to work, and Dad would always make me take the Eldorado (it was a tank and he was thinking safety). When I would get off work, all of my friends would pile into that Cadillac and we would drive circles around our small town–not getting into any trouble, just ‘seeing who was there.’ Because of the song, Bad, Bad Leroy Brown, I was dubbed “Leroy” for my high school years. Looks like you’ve got a “Leroy” on your hands! He looks like a happy man standing there by his ride! Congratulations! 🙂
