God’s little (half) acre

All it takes is a little elbow grease.  Look at those boys go.  IMG_5234IMG_5235IMG_5233

Mark and Lorrie have been so busy with coaching for the special Olympics they have neglected their yard.  So, big Daddy is getting to it.  After all, if it’s going to be our home for the next 5 months, it has to be up to his standards.  This yard has so much potential.  There are all sorts of interesting plants and pots and stands and fences and…..

In a month or so, when Al is finished with it, there will be ‘after’ pictures and you’ll think it’s a different place.  Just you wait.

So, a little bit every day, maybe an hour or so,  not to overtax that slowing healing painful nerve in his lower back, and Al will have this yard ship shape.  All the components are there.  they just need to be freshened.

We took a short break and went to meet my brother Raymond and his wife Nancy on their way home to Kelowna from Victoria last week. These two have been together for 48 years. Imagine!!! Medals coming up. And there’s my man, trying to smile through his discomfort with that darn painful leg.  Of Course, we’re at Tim Horton’s.  Where else do Canadians meet for coffee.  And since there’s one on every second corner, we didn’t have to go too far; Al just couldn’t have done it.  He can’t sit for long and, imagine, I drove.

Then, a few days later, with Al feeling quite a bit better, we went to the Kotecki’s (our wedding attendants) for Anna’s birthday.  True to form, Anna did all the cooking and fussing over us, instead of the other way round.  It was really a lovely visit.  Anna made shepherd’s pie.  I didn’t realize what a fussy eater I am; I won’t eat that stuff.  So, true to Anna’s usual, she had perogies for me.  That woman!!!  Love her to pieces.IMG_5237IMG_5239
And isn’t this a happy man!!! either one of them.  But look at the difference on Al’s face from the previous picture.  He’s definitely on the mend.

Al’s QOTD:  (that’s Quote Of The Day in case you’ve forgotten – or never knew)
You’re going to get older, if you’re lucky, so get used to it.

MAKE MY DAY~~~

In his thirties, Al worked at a government job for Transport Canada at the Prince Rupert, British Columbia airport. The airport was on a separate island from the city, served by a city car ferry. Al’s official title was carpenter, only because he knew what a wood-together-holder was ((nail). One day he took a government dump truck into the city for a supply of modified trees (lumber). On his return to the ferry, he was pulled over by a policeman. He was informed that the license plate was out of date and he should receive a ticket. Al retorted: “send it to my boss, Jean Cretien (then prime Minister of Canada) in Ottawa”. To which the RCMP officer replied : “he’s my boss, too. Be on your way.”

Darn it… I served you shepherd’s pie a year ago when you visited. You ate it and never let on that you don’t eat that stuff. Next time I’ll ask you first 🙂
